My Persuasive Essay: Homework Amounts Should Decrease "Great, another night of homework. Too bad I won't be able to do anyting else." This comment is very common among kids today. Kids are getting so much homewrok that their stress levels sky rocket, their health goes down, and they have no time to do what they want to do. With all the homework kids are getting, kid's stress level increases greatly. Stress comes from pressure of making good grades, studying for tests, and having a lot of homework. Sometimes, kids get so wrapped up in getting good grades, it can cause them to cheat. Poor health may be a concequence of having too much homework. How, you mihg t ask? Well, Denise Clark Pope says, "The workload is so great and expectations so high that students feel obligated to give up recreation and sleep time." Yesm all this homewrok leads to less excersise, loss of sleep, and sometimes, kids might even forget to eat! All of those things are crucial to kid's health. Finally, with the amount of homework kids get, they don't have time to do what they want to do. Don't even think about having a friend over, because both of you will be working away at your homework. Do you want to play outside or just catch up with your family? Good luck doing that, because on the average school day, there will be no time. Now, after a long day, you want to sit back and relzex. Nope! There's no time for that because you need to finish your homework. As you can see, there is not ime for kids to do what they want to do. You might be thinking, "Teachers don't give that much homework." You are right. Individually, they don't give that much homework. But if you add up all your classes, such as core, science, and math, together, the amount gets pretty hih. A second argument is that homeowrk helps kids remember what they learned in class that day, which makes the teachers able to move faster. But, are kids really remembering what they did in class when they do the homework? Actually, no because kids ae doing what Denise Clark Pope calls "busy work." That's when kids are just doing the work, but not really thingking about it and are not going into depth about it. Also, to really learn from our homework, we need to correct it. So during the time when correcting, we could just do the whole assignment as a class together. In conclusion , kids are getting way too much homework. It is causing kids stress that they don't need to have, and missing out on their own time, doing what they want to do. Hours of homework kids get are so high that it is affecting their health. That is why homework amounts should decrease. |
